A variant or localized form of tropical music is found throughout Mexico, but most often heard on the radio in the Central and Gulf Coast areas..
-When the Colombian cumbia arrived in Mexico in the 60's, it was adopted by the dancing public and soon developed into a truly Mexican hybrid. .
USAThere are "sonora" cumbia bands, which are large dance bands. And there are "grupera" cumbia artists that have mixed the onda grupera with the cumbia to get a distinctive, keyboard based tropical flavor.
